My DVD entry…

DVD EntryOn CJ Mahaney’s blog he is having a contest to win a free DVD Titled “Don’t Waste Your Sports”. To enter, you had to write a note about your most embarrassing sports experience. I had to enter and have since debated revealing this story to the world. I decided that the likelihood of me winning and it being revealed are slim, but exist, so I might well post my entry now.

Enjoy:

For most of my youth, I was obsessed with basketball. Being well above average height, I had a knack for it, but lacked what many would call coordination. However, my love for the game outweighed my lack of ability. When I hit 7th grade I, for the 2nd year in a row, went to Westphal Brother’s Basketball camp. This was the premier camp in the Arizona area and I was easily the tallest kid in my age group. I made my way through the tryouts and actually felt like I was finally holding my own. Maybe, just maybe God had granted me permission to be successful in a sport I loved and I would elevate my status beyond scrub. However after that night’s snack bar (oh how I hate the idea of a snack bar), I went to my room and introduced myself to my roommates. We started talking tryouts and getting to know each other. When, out of the blue, I puked all over the room. It completely caught me off guard, but it taught me that 7th graders are cruel. From then on, for the rest of the week, my accomplishments on the basketball court meant nothing. I actually think we may have won the league championship, but I can’t remember. What I do remember is that my nickname throughout the entire camp was BARFBOY.
