A Reminder of God’s Work in Bringing Us Noah

I’ve posted on here a little bit about what it took to bring our second (and eventually 3rd) child into the world.  When Noah was born, he had  a baby shower and at the shower I wrote him a letter.  I was cleaning up my documents the other day and found it (4.5 years later).  I grabbed a couple of excerpts from it and am amazed that the test of time only makes this more true.  What a blessing Noah has been to those around him!

Noah, it’s hard to write you a letter without talking about the steps that God took us through to get you here.  It will hopefully be a long time, if ever, that you fully understand what your mom and I went through bringing you into this family.  When your big brother Jonathan was about one and a half we thought this whole raising kids thing was a blast and figured, why not…let’s try it again.  Little did we know that decision would bring us the 3 most difficult years of our lives.  During that time, we lost your three sisters.  God decided that he wanted those girls with Him.  When David lost one of His children, he begged God for a different path.  But once he was certain of God’s decision, David “arose from the ground, washed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he came into the house of the Lord and worshiped.” (2 Sam 12:20 NASB).  I cannot tell you how hard that is and I am baffled daily by David’s understanding and trust in God’s decisions.  God has taught me a lot about trusting Him.  Not trusting Him to make life out to the way that I want it, not trusting Him to keep us safe in this world, but to trust God’s judgment and understanding of what is the best path, period.  He knows what is best for me, for you & for your sisters.  Now I say this all, not to play down your day, but to show you that God has taught us worlds just in the process of bringing you here.  Now that God has entrusted us with you, I cannot wait to teach you what God has taught me.

Lastly I want you to know how much your mom, brother and I love you.  I think Jonathan said it best this morning when he said, “I love that we have Noah in this family.”  When your mom was pregnant with you, she had to give herself two shots each day.  Everyone said that they would never be able to do something like that, but she always responded, “You would if it were your kid’s life you were doing it for.”  That’s true…we as parents will do anything for you.  Our goal in raising you and your brother is not to give you the tools for a great life here on earth, although that will be helpful.  We want to show you who our Father is and why there is no other path worth taking except to love and cherish Him.  I pray daily that God shows you His face.
