Lessons from Tom Carson – Faithfulness

Several months ago I read the book, Memoirs of an Ordinary Pastor: the Life and Reflections of Tom Carson, by his son D.A. Carson.  It was a great read with applications to any Christian planted in an unbelieving world.  At the time I mentioned I would be starting a 6 or so part series of [...]

Relief Found Only at the Cross…

I am currently feeling a bit of exhaustion. I am working long hours at work and am finding little time or energy for the things that help encourage and sustain me. When I do spend time in ministry, I find myself lacking by either not studying the the vigor and desire that I [...]

Johnstown Flood… A Historical Account that Captivates

I just finished one of my favorite books of all time, The Johnstown Flood by David McCullough. I’m a big McCullough fan. I’ve read his John Adams (in which the recent HBO series was based), I’ve read 1776, Truman and I think one other. I enjoyed them all. I enjoy him, because of the detail that he includes. His research is unparalleled and I believe that he is more accurate than most history books. So when I picked up one of his older books, I knew that I was going to get a decent book, but had no idea what I was in for.

Pray for a Misplaced Hope…

Sometime since November, I read one of Barack Obama’s books titled “The Audacity of Hope”. The book is an political biography written by our upcoming President. He titled it as such because he believes that there is still hope that the “American Dream” can be had by any American with a few changes in our political system.

So…Let’s Be Obedient Evangelists!

Dever’s Call to action was a perfect way to complete an exceptional book. I would do him an injustice if I closed this series without his closing:
We want to see a renewed commitment to and joy in the great privilege we have of sharing the good news of Christ with the lost and dying [...]

Closing the Sale

OK, now this is just becoming a quote blog, but I don’t care. Here is one more from Dever (actually, I know there will be at least one more after this one). What can I say, I want to remember these beyond the reading of this book.
The redemption of an eternal soul is [...]

Live Distinctively

I’m still in the book “The Gospel & Personal Evangelism”. Here is a quick quote about Christian living as it pertains to evangelism.
…live distinctive Christian lives…not by how similar we are to those around us (a common mistake Christians can make), but by how attractively different we are. That’s why we are to [...]

Christian Listening, something I have to learn…

I have to say “The Gospel & Personal Evangelism” by Mark Dever is one of the most quotable books I’ve read in a while. It has really spoken to me. I almost didn’t read this book, because I thought I was good at evangelism. There were always people that I was talking [...]
