Evidences of Grace in Two Little Boys

This has been an interesting and encouraging 48 hours of parenting.  I’ve had two completely separate experiences with Noah and Jonathan that were both answers to prayers.  I’m not writing this to boast that it looks like my kids are responding to situations like a Christian should.  I’m writing it, because I know that many [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 4: The Meeting

Quote of the week comes from our actual meeting. I asked Jonathan if he prayed at all this week. His answer was, “I tried, but I forgot the story.” Hmm…I think I may have explained how to pray poorly. We’ll get to that in a minute. First…how cool is the [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 4: Compassion

As a refresher, last week we walked through the third chapter of the Gospel of John. This was a tough week for me, because it is a call to repentance in the chapter. Jonathan and I had a good week of discussing what it means and I will this week spend more time [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 3: The Meeting

Quote of the week comes from Noah at dinner tonight. “Can I have some more orange wine?” A father has never been so proud, I mean embarrassed, no…proud.
So we were in John Chapter 3 today. This chapter speaks directly to our response to the gospel, so what response should I look for [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 3: Belief

As a refresher, last week we walked through the second chapter of the Gospel of John. We started each section by defining words, we then read the text and followed it with an explanation of the section. It was very exciting to see Jonathan accepting these concepts with little to no resistance. [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 2: The Meeting

Here’s a picture of him as fire for Halloween (Noah was a fireman).
I’ve been putting quotes up every week from Jonathan typically about our meeting. Just now I was sitting here working on this and Jonathan came up to me and said,
Instead of buying something at Starbucks, can we just bring our [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 2: His Authority

As a refresher, last week we walked through the first chapter of the Gospel of John. It was good, but I felt like I spent the entire time defining words, so this week I’m going to start with word definitions before we read the text. We’ll see how that goes, but I’m thinking [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 1: The Meeting

The night before as we pass our weekly meeting spot
Jonathan: See you tomorrow Starbucks
(This kid kills me)
Tonight Jonathan and I had another meeting; at this one we started the book of John. I learned a few things from this meeting, but mostly I learned that there are a lot of words that he [...]

Gospel of John for Kids – Part 1: The Messiah

As a refresher, last week we walked through the first section of the Gospel Primer, however, Jonathan requested that we just read the Bible. So we’re starting in John. I’ve put together an intro to that. He has read most of chapter 1 on his own, so we’ll be reviewing what he’s read and try to integrate it into the whole of Scripture that he’s been learning about in Sunday School.

Gospel for Kids – Part 1: The Meeting

Jonathan: How long are we gonna do this?
Matt: Until we die.

(Don’t you all talk to your kids like that?)
